P.E.P.

Production Efficiency Profitability

Put a little P.E.P in your step! It’s no secret that prior planning pays off. Planning goes a long way, not only can it keep you on task, but it also allows for you to work through your daily obligations more efficiently. When it comes to the Green Industry it’s no different. Obviously, marketing and having a growing or stable client base is important, but are you efficiently servicing your clients?

Why start further away?

  1. Starting further away leaves drive time for early morning, thus leaving more time in the day to truly be productive.
  2. “Work your way home”
  3. Work your way homes means to make the proper stops as the day goes on getting you closer to the shop, the house and whatever else may be your destination.
  4. If you leave long drives to the end of the day, not only are you losing money while a crew or you travel thus causing for more payment to just drive time. Drive time is a factor in each job, yes, but if your stops are grouped properly to maximize man hours you will be more profitable and productive. Let alone that hard labor is difficult, and employees are bound to wear down. A long drive can be tougher on the employee toward the end of the day.
  5. The math behind it
  6. Man Hours X Employees = Cost per hour
  7. Cost per hour X Drive time = Unproductive time
  8. When drive time is reduced between stops your decreasing unproductive time, and increasing your bottom line and being more efficient.
  9. Importance to applying this to Estimates
  10. Think about it, do you get every job you bid? NO
  11. The more estimates you get done, the more jobs/income you have, yes, however do not forget the importance of quality!
  12. Start the furthest away, allow for that drive time, let yourself wake up and be ready to work when you get there.
  13. Estimates that are within the same area are a win on two fronts. Not only are you maximizing your time and getting to more estimates, you’re setting the crew or yourself up for the work.
  14. When jobs are close together, it minimizes travel, it allows for more efficient production. There is less time between to lose on.

Less travel time is less paid time on the clock at the end of the day. Jobs grouped close together are more productive for you, and your crew. Efficiency, Production, and Profitability are the keys to being successful.
